I Guess I’m Now A Primary Worker
In Sacrament meting I was sustained as a primary worker. Bishop Dorius asked me about it a little while ago because they were having a hard time finding a replacement to help teach my Mom’s primary class. They must have been desperate to have two Sister Reynolds in the same class, but they’ll have to made do. I’ll talk about the lesson in a bit, but I figure I’ll write things in order if I can.
Silly little Seminary story
So, I don’t know why this came up but I was talking to Sister Amy and I don’t know why this came up but we were talking about Seminary Teachers. Probably because Seminary Graduation was last week. We talked about seminary teachers and our favorite ones. I mentioned how one time in high school, I wore red lipstick to school and my seminary teacher complimented me on it. And it became our thing where we both would wear red lipstick when we had that class. Sister Amy loved it and we wore red lipstick to District council. Why am I including this? Well, it’s one of the only pictures I have from this week so you get the story. On a more meaningful note, if you are a teacher, it really helps the student look forward to learning if you get to know them. I do think that Seminary teacher made me love seminary that year, even if her name is gone from my memory.
Stitching Hearts
Mom wanted me to talk more about my assignments in detail so I’ll try my best. I’m going to pick one at a time to talk about and pick another one next week. Tomorrow and on Wednesdays I go to the Institute building that’s on the Utah Tech campus. In the basement we have a multiple projects going where we make mats out of plastic grocery bags. We then send them to homeless people in need. They are surprisingly comfortable and they are way warmer than sleeping on the ground. A recent thing we’ve been doing is we’ve been making rag rugs. We weave strips of fabric on our looms to make rugs because the church apparently bought an apartment complex and are helping refugees there for the time being. And of course, to make it a little more homely for them we are making rugs. That’s what I mostly do there anyways. We also tie quilts out of quilt tops that were either donated or made ourselves and make pillows by using scrap pieces of plastic that can’t be used on the mats.
Avery Graduated!
On Wednesday I had the day off to go to my sister’s graduation! Our grandparents came down and we watched in the blazing heat and facing the sun on the high school bleachers as they did a couple of speeches and called out the names of the kids one by one. To be honest it made me really glad that my graduation was on television instead because I can’t imagine sitting there in the sun with the huge gown and cap. I was a 2020 graduate for all of you who do t know. Man that makes me feel old, like how my brother told me he thought I was 23 today. I’m 21, you should know this Riggs you punk!
Sister Reynolds is teaching with Sister Reynolds
Yeah, I now am teaching the 10-11 year olds with my mom. And seeing as I thought I should start trying to get into the groove of teaching again, I thought to have this week be my turn to be in charge. And let’s just say I’m out of practice. I don’t think it was terrible per se, but It just felt awkward. I truly do think that the mantle of being a proselyting missionary does make a difference in teaching. There’s a power to your teaching that just isn’t there otherwise. I wish there was an MTC for teaching primary, but since there isn’t let’s just wing it and see how it goes. And the Come Follow Me lesson was on baptism. Isn’t that Ironic?
Next week I think I’m going to talk about the Outreach program at the Family Search center. It’s pretty exciting and it’s my newest assignment. I won’t be going there this week, since Monday’s Memorial Day and that’s when I usually go there, but it’s exciting and I’m supposed to spread the word around! Adios!
